What is crowdfunding?+
It is a way to gather contributions from a group of people through an organized campaign. The contribution might be a donation, a reward pledge, a loan or an investment.
Is backing a campaign the same as investing?+
No. A reward pledge or donation usually does not give ownership. Investment crowdfunding involves rights defined by the specific security and offering documents.
Can I fund a campaign on this site?+
No. Social Crowdfunding is an educational directory. Contributions and investments take place only on the relevant provider’s official site.
Are the platforms ranked or endorsed?+
No. The directory is a curated, alphabetical starting point. Inclusion is not an endorsement, partnership or verification of every campaign.
Why are there no promised returns?+
Results depend on the particular activity. Investments may lose all their value, and reward campaigns can face delays or fail to deliver.
What should I check first?+
Identify the organizer, legal recipient, campaign model and exactly what you receive. Read the terms before the promotional story.
Does meeting a target mean delivery is guaranteed?+
No. A funding milestone does not prove manufacturing, shipping, profitability or investor returns.
Can I cancel my contribution?+
Cancellation rights vary by platform, model and timing. Read the current campaign and platform terms before committing; investment cancellation rules may differ from reward policies.
Can shipping cost more than expected?+
It can. Check whether shipping, duties and taxes are included, when they are charged and whether estimates may change.
What if a creator stops communicating?+
Keep your records, review official updates and use the platform’s support or reporting route. Be careful of unsolicited recovery services or requests for off-platform payments.
Is a donation tax-deductible?+
Do not assume so. The recipient’s status and applicable tax rules matter. Verify any claim through official records and a qualified tax professional.
What does a pledge total measure?+
It measures the funding or pledges reported by a platform at a particular point. It does not by itself establish completed payments, net proceeds or financial success.
What is Regulation Crowdfunding?+
It is a U.S. securities offering framework. Use the SEC’s current resources and verify the required intermediary before participating.
What is a Form C?+
It is a disclosure filing associated with a Regulation Crowdfunding offering. Read the issuer’s latest relevant filing and amendments alongside the campaign.
What is a SAFE?+
A simple agreement for future equity defines possible future conversion under specified terms. It is not necessarily stock you own immediately. Conversion and downside depend on the actual agreement.
What is dilution?+
If a company issues more equity, an existing holder’s percentage ownership can decrease. Different classes and conversion terms can affect the result.
Can I sell whenever I want?+
Do not assume a ready market. Legal transfer restrictions, company terms and a lack of buyers can limit selling for a long or indefinite period.
How much am I allowed to invest?+
Eligibility and limits depend on the exemption and your circumstances. Use current SEC guidance and the intermediary’s process; this site does not determine your eligibility or maximum.
Does a regulator approve the investment?+
Registration or a filing is not a recommendation or guarantee of an investment’s merit. Verify records and evaluate the risks independently.
Which platform should I choose?+
Begin with your model, jurisdiction, audience and obligations. Compare current eligibility, costs, tools and support. A platform popular in one category may not fit another.
What belongs in the budget?+
Production, development, platform and payment costs, fulfillment, taxes, marketing, support and contingency. The worksheet helps organize assumptions; it does not quote provider fees.
Can I offer equity as a reward?+
Securities require an appropriate legal process. Get qualified advice before offering ownership, profit participation or financial returns.
How often should I update backers?+
Set an achievable schedule and communicate material changes promptly. Explain completed work, current blockers and the next measurable milestone.
What makes a useful campaign case study?+
A clear metric, date, original source and distinction between funding, delivery and returns. Read setbacks as well as visible winners.
